LPA over Marinduque waters likely to become tropical depression

The low pressure area (LPA) over the coastal waters of Gasan, Marinduque has a “high” chance of developing into a tropical depression within the next 24 hours, PAGASA said Tuesday afternoon.

Should it develop into the eighth tropical depression of the year, PAGASA will assign it the local name Henry.

The LPA will bring cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms over Metro Manila, Visayas, Central Luzon, CALABARZON, MIMAROPA, and the Bicol Region, PAGASA said in its 4 p.m. weather forecast.

As of 5 p.m., the heavy rainfall outlook associated with the LPA is as follows:

Tuesday to Wednesday afternoon (July 1):
(50–100 mm) — Quezon, Batangas, Palawan, Occidental Mindoro, Oriental Mindoro, and Marinduque

Wednesday afternoon to Thursday afternoon (July 2):
(50–100 mm) — Palawan

PAGASA said forecast rainfall may be higher in mountainous and elevated areas, and that impacts in some locations may be worsened by significant antecedent rainfall.

Meanwhile, the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) will affect Zamboanga Peninsula, BARMM, Lanao del Norte, Sultan Kudarat, South Cotabato, Sarangani, Davao Occidental, Davao del Sur, Davao Oriental, and the rest of Mindanao.

The rest of Luzon will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to localized thunderstorms.

PAGASA warned that these weather systems may trigger flash floods or landslides.

Winds will be light to moderate, while coastal waters will remain slight to moderate throughout the country.
