Super Typhoon Bavi continued moving west-northwestward near the Northern Mariana Islands while remaining outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), the state weather bureau said Monday.

As of 10 a.m., the eye of the super typhoon was estimated at 2,215 kilometers east of Southeastern Luzon, packing maximum sustained winds of 205 km/h and gusts of up to 250 km/h.

According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), Bavi is forecast to maintain its super typhoon strength as it enters the PAR between Tuesday evening, July 7, and early Wednesday, July 8.

Once inside the PAR, the tropical cyclone will be assigned the local name Inday.

PAGASA said that although the likelihood of Bavi making landfall over any part of Luzon remains low, Tropical Cyclone Wind Signals may still be raised over the northern and eastern portions of Northern Luzon due to the typhoon's intensity and the wide extent of its strong winds.

The weather bureau advised the public and local disaster risk reduction and management offices to continue monitoring official updates on the cyclone's track and intensity.—MCG, GMA News
