Signal No. 1 over northeast Cagayan as Super Typhoon Bavi now named Inday
PAGASA has raised Signal No. 1 over the northeast portion of Cagayan, particularly the towns of Santa Ana, Gonzaga, Lal-Lo, Gattaran, and Santa Teresita, due to Super Typhoon Bavi, which has been given the local name Inday even if it's still outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility.
As of 10 p.m., the center of the eye of Super Typhoon Inday was estimated at 1,545 kilometers east of Northern Luzon outside PAR, packing maximum sustained winds of 185 kilometers per hour near the center, gustiness of up to 230 km/h, and central pressure of 930 hPa.
Inday is moving westward at the speed of 30 km/h with strong to typhoon-force winds extending outwards up to 900 km from the center.
Heavy rainfall outlook of 500 to 100 millimeters due to Inday and the Southwest Monsoon is expected in Batanes from Thursday evening up to Friday evening.
There will be minimal to minor impacts from strong winds within any of the areas under Wind Signal No. 1.
The enhanced Southwest Monsoon and the periphery of Super Typhoon Inday will bring strong to gale-force gusts over the following areas (especially in coastal and upland areas exposed to winds) in most of Mindanao.
Hazards affecting coastal waters
A Gale Warning will be issued by Wednesday morning or afternoon over the northern and eastern seaboards of Luzon and Visayas.
Mariners are advised not to venture out to sea under these conditions, especially if inexperienced of operating ill-equipped vessels.
"Inday is forecast to move generally west-northwestward and will enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility tomorrow (08 July) early morning," said PAGASA.
"It will then turn northwestward while remaining over the Philippine Sea and will be nearest to Extreme Northern Luzon by Friday (10 July) before heading towards the north of Taiwan," the agency added.
Super Typhoon Inday will maintain its strength as a super typhoon until Thursday, July 9, 2026, and will downgrade into a typhoon by Thursday afternoon or evening, then gradually weaken.
Nevertheless, PAGASA said, it will likely remain a typhoon throughout the remaining forecast period. — BAP, GMA News
