Signal No. 1 raised over more areas in Northern, Central Luzon as TD Luis accelerates

Wind Signal No. 1 remains hoisted over several areas in Northern and Central Luzon—with additional areas placed under the advisory—as Tropical Depression Luis slightly accelerates while moving over the coastal waters of Divilacan, Isabela, PAGASA said Monday.

As of 4 p.m., Luis was estimated over the coastal waters of Divilacan, Isabela, with maximum sustained winds of 45 kph and gusts up to 60 kph.

Due to the tropical depression, as of 5 p.m., Wind Signal No. 1 has been raised over the following areas in Luzon:

Isabela and Quirino remain under Wind Signal No. 1, according to the state weather bureau’s 5 p.m. advisory.

PAGASA advised all areas flagged with wind threat to be on alert for possible minimal to minor impacts from strong winds, adding that it may be stronger or enhanced in coastal and upland areas.

Meanwhile, the Southwest Monsoon or Habagat and the periphery of Luis are expected to bring strong to gale-force gusts over the following areas on August 3 and 4:

  • Most of Luzon and Visayas
  • Zamboanga del Norte
  • Lanao del Norte
  • Misamis Occidental
  • Camiguin, Surigao del Norte, Dinagat Islands
  • Sarangani
  • Davao Occidental
  • Davao Oriental.

PAGASA said Tropical Depression Luis “will move generally northwestward and may make landfall or pass close to Cagayan or Isabela this afternoon or evening,” before turning east northeastward while moving away from the Philippine landmass. —Lyjah Tiffany Bonzo/RF, GMA News
