Signal No. 1 up in 17 Luzon areas due to Tropical Depression Maymay
Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 has been hoisted in 17 areas in Luzon due to Tropical Depression Maymay, which is expected to intensify while approaching landmass, according to PAGASA.
In its 11 p.m. tropical cyclone bulletin, the weather bureau said Maymay is estimated at 130 kilometers west northwest of Bacnotan, La Union and is moving east northeastward at 10 km/hour with maximum sustained winds of 55 km/h and gustiness of 70 km/hr.
Maymay will remain staitionary for 12 hours before moving eastward and may make a landfall over Ilocos Sur or La Union by Wednesday afternoon or evening, PAGASA said. Afterwards, it will traverse the landmass of Northern and Central Luzon until Thursday.
"Maymay is forecast to intensify while approaching the landmass and may reach tropical storm category in the next 12 hours," the weather bureau said.
"After making landfall, Maymay will weaken into a tropical depression by Thursday morning and may be downgraded further into a low pressure area by Thursday afternoon or evening," it added.

- the western portion of Cagayan (Santa Praxedes, Claveria, Rizal, Tuao, Sanchez-Mira, Pamplona, Abulug)
- Apayao

- Kalinga
- Mountain Province
- Ifugao
- Benguet
- the western and central portions of Nueva Vizcaya (Dupax del Sur, Dupax del Norte, Kasibu, Quezon, Bagabag, Diadi, Bayombong, Ambaguio, Villaverde, Kayapa, Santa Fe, Aritao, Bambang, Solano)
- the northern portion of Nueva Ecija (Carranglan, Lupao, Cuyapo, Talugtug, Nampicuan, Guimba)
- the northern portion of Zambales (Candelaria, Santa Cruz, Masinloc, Palauig),
- the northern portion of Tarlac (Mayantoc, San Clemente, Camiling, Santa Ignacia, Gerona, Paniqui, Moncada, San Manuel, Anao, Ramos, Pura)
- the western portion of Isabela (Quezon, Cordon, Ramon, San Mateo, Mallig, Roxas, San Manuel, Aurora, Cabatuan, Alicia, San Isidro, City of Santiago)
- the northwestern portion of Quirino (Diffun, Cabarroguis, Saguday)
Minimal to minor impacts from strong winds are possible within any of the areas under Wind Signal No. 1, according to PAGASA.
The Southwest Monsoon and the periphery of Maymay will bring strong to gale-force gusts over the following areas:
- August 4 and 5: Most of Luzon and Visayas, Surigao del Norte, Dinagat Islands, Misamis Occidental, Camiguin, Lanao del Norte, Sarangani, Davao Occidental, and Davao Oriental.
