Typhoon Saudel continues to intensify while moving northwestward, the state weather bureau PAGASA said in its 11 p.m. bulletin on Saturday.

As of 10 p.m., Saudel was located outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), about 2,345 kilometers east of Extreme Northern Luzon, with maximum sustained winds of 155 kilometers per hour and gusts of up to 190 kph.

PAGASA said Saudel will continue moving northwestward over the next 12 hours before turning west-northwestward.

Saudel is expected to enter the northeastern boundary of the PAR by the morning or afternoon of August 24. It will be assigned the local name Obet or Pilandok, depending on whether it enters the PAR before another tropical depression currently located east of the Visayas.

The state weather bureau forecasts that Saudel will remain over the Philippine Sea before exiting the PAR by Tuesday, August 25.— MCG, GMA News
