'Persona' is getting a Netflix series adaptation —report

Netflix is developing a live-action series adaptation of the classic “Persona” video game franchise, according to a report by Variety.

Variety reported that Christopher Monfette is attached to write the adaptation and serve as its executive producer and showrunner.

The project is set to be executive produced by Shawn Levy, Dan Levine, and Robert Atwood of 21 Laps, along with Dmitri M. Johnson, Michael Lawrence Goldberg, and Timothy I. Stevenson through Story Kitchen. Toru Nakahara of SEGA will also executive produce.

Emily Feher is overseeing the project for 21 Laps, which currently has an overall television deal with Netflix. 21 Laps is known for producing “Stranger Things.”

The streaming platform declined to comment on the report.

The “Persona” games typically focuses on Japanese high school students who must navigate school and friendships while dealing with supernatural threats.

The franchise currently has six mainline entries, with “Persona 6” officially confirmed to be in development.

It has also expanded through numerous spin-offs, with the latest release being “Persona 5: The Phantom X” in 2025. The series began as a spin-off of the “Shin Megami Tensei” franchise, with “Revelations: Persona” released in 1996. —Carby Rose Basina/JCB, GMA News
