Alexandra “Alex” Eala and Venus Williams bowed out of the Bad Homburg Open doubles competition after a 6-3, 6-2 quarterfinal defeat to Slovakia’s Tereza Mihalikova and Great Britain’s Olivia Nicholls on Thursday.

Mihalikova and Nicholls, both ranked No. 29 in the WTA doubles rankings, needed just one hour and 20 minutes to secure the straight-sets victory.

Eala and Williams advanced to the quarterfinals following a 6-3, 6-4 win over Catherine Harrison and Alexandra Osborne on Wednesday.

The defeat also marked Eala’s exit from the WTA 500 event, having earlier suffered a first-round loss to Elise Mertens in the singles draw.

Eala is expected to compete at Wimbledon next week as the tournament’s No. 29 seed, becoming the first Filipina player to be seeded in a Grand Slam singles event.
