Alex Eala's 2026 season recap after winning the DC Open
Alex Eala continues to make history in a breakthrough season, capturing the first WTA title of her career after winning the DC Open on Monday (Tuesday, Philippine time).
Eala rallied past world No. 3 Jessica Pegula in the final, 4-6, 6-4, 6-0, to claim the championship.
Her title run included victories over Olympic champion Zheng Qinwen in the first round, defending champion Leylah Fernandez in the second, world No. 10 Elina Svitolina in the quarterfinals, and four-time Grand Slam champion Naomi Osaka in the semifinals.

Before her triumph in Washington, Eala reached the fourth round of Wimbledon, her best finish at a Grand Slam to date.
Earlier in the grass-court season, she also captured her second WTA 125 title in Birmingham.
