Filipino Olympian and pole vaulter EJ Obiena hopes to sustain his rhythm as his season progresses, especially with the Asian Games on the horizon.

Obiena recently won back-to-back tournaments in Germany and posted his season-best mark of 5.85 meters in Spain last July.

“I’m slowly getting back into it, getting the rhythm of my jumps. I hope it keeps going,” Obiena said in JP Soriano’s report on 24 Oras on Thursday.

Now based in Greece, Obiena believes his decision to join Emmanouil Karalis’ team has been a good move.

“I decided to move here and train with Team Karalis. With that, I think, as you said, I’m having a decent season. I think the decision is working.”

With the Asian Games approaching and other Asian vaulters continuing to rise, the reigning champion said he is looking forward to competing against the continent’s best.

“I’m in a way looking forward to it. There’s nothing fun when success is guaranteed, and I think that’s the beauty of every competition. There’s always a probability that you will lose. It gives you that extra push, extra energy, extra concentration to give your all.”
