Alex Eala to face Elena-Gabriela Ruse in Cincinnati Open Round of 64
Alexandra “Alex” Eala will commence her Cincinnati Open campaign against Romania’s Elena-Gabriela Ruse in the Round of 64.
Ruse, 28, is currently ranked No. 77 in the world, with a career-high ranking of No. 51, which she reached in 2022. Eala, meanwhile, is ranked No. 20 in the world and received a first-round bye in the tournament.
The match will mark the second meeting between Eala and Ruse. The two first met in the third round of the 2024 US Open qualifying tournament, where Ruse rallied to win 3-6, 6-1, 6-4.
Ruse enters Cincinnati after a Round of 64 exit at the Canadian Open, where she lost to Anastasia Potapova. She reached the Round of 32 at the Iasi Open in Romania before suffering a first-round defeat to Caty McNally at Wimbledon.
The Romanian’s strongest recent showing came at the Bad Homburg Open, where she reached the semifinals before falling to Karolina Muchova.
Eala, meanwhile, reached the Round of 16 at the Canadian Open before losing to Belinda Bencic. The result followed her breakthrough run at the DC Open, where she claimed her first WTA singles title.
