Alex Eala flies to New York for US OpenĀ

Alexandra "Alex" Eala is now headed back to the same place where she made history multiple times in the past.

The 21-year-old Filipina tennis sensation posted a photo Saturday announcing that she is on her way to New York for her second appearance at the US Open.

Currently ranked No. 20 in the world, Eala is poised to earn a seeding in the women's singles draw.

Last year, Eala made history by becoming the first Filipina to win a Grand Slam main-draw match, pulling off a come-from-behind victory over Clara Tauson in the opening round before falling to Cristina Bucsa in the second round.

The US Open was also where Eala carved her name into the history books in the junior ranks.

In 2021, Eala reached the quarterfinals of the girls' singles event before winning it all the following year, defeating Lucie Havlickova in the final of the 2022 edition.

Eala is having a stellar North American swing so far, beating several top players to win her breakthrough WTA title at the Mubadala DC Open before reaching the Round of 16 at the Canadian Open and the Round of 32 at the Cincinnati Open.

Aside from the women's singles, Eala will also see action in the mixed doubles event alongside world No. 4 Felix Auger-Aliassime.
