Baguio landslide death toll rises to 8; 3 still missing
The death toll in the landslide that hit Barangay Guisad Surong in Baguio City has reached eight, the Baguio City Public Information Office said.
According to the PIO's post on Facebook, one of the 3 survivors reportedly died in the hospital.
As of 8 p.m., the office said eight persons have died because of the landslide while three remain missing. Two were rescued.
A dog was also successfully rescued from the landslide area.The PIO said search, rescue, and retrieval operations remain ongoing at ground zero as responders continue their efforts to locate those still unaccounted for.
Authorities said the landslide occurred at around 7 p.m. Sunday amid continuous heavy rains. It struck three houses and affected five families.
Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong said residents in nearby high-risk areas had already been evacuated.
He also said 13 other landslides had recently been recorded in Baguio City due to the heavy rains, bringing the total to 14.
"That’s the 14th one. And it’s not over yet. We’ll likely receive more reports today," Magalong said. –NB, GMA News
