Luzon to expect cloudy skies, rains due to Habagat
The Southwest Monsoon, or Habagat, is expected to affect weather conditions over Luzon on Sunday, August 23, 2026, the state weather bureau PAGASA said Saturday.
In its 4 p.m. bulletin, PAGASA said the Habagat will bring cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms over the Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Batanes, Cagayan, Zambales, Bataan, Nueva Ecija, Bulacan, Tarlac, and Pampanga.
Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon are expected to experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms.
The rest of the country may also experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to localized thunderstorms.
As of 3 p.m., Typhoon Saudel was located 2,555 kilometers east of Northern Luzon, outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR). It had maximum sustained winds of 150 km/h near the center and gusts of up to 185 km/h.
PAGASA said Saudel is expected to enter PAR on Monday, August 24, and will be given the local name Obet.
Tropical Depression Gaenari, formerly Neneng, was also being monitored 660 kilometers north-northeast of Itbayat, Batanes. It had maximum sustained winds of 55 km/h and gusts of up to 70 km/h.
Another tropical depression, formerly Low Pressure Area 08h, was located 1,055 kilometers east of Eastern Visayas, with maximum sustained winds of 45 km/h and gusts of up to 55 km/h.
Moderate to strong winds and moderate to rough seas are expected over the northern and western sections of Luzon, with wave heights ranging from 1.5 to 3.4 meters.
Light to moderate winds and slight to moderate seas are expected over the rest of the country, with wave heights ranging from 0.6 to 2.1 meters.
