How much will Carlos Yulo, Jeus Yape, and other Asian Games medalists receive as government incentives?
The Philippines finished the 2026 Asian Games with its biggest medal haul in 60 years, taking home 29 medals — the most number of medals since winning 42 at the 1966 Bangkok edition.
The country also won four golds, nine silvers, and 16 bronzes in 2026, marking its best performance at the Asian Games since the 1962 Jakarta edition, when the Philippines won seven golds, six silvers, and 24 bronzes. The country’s haul of gold and silver medals this year was its closest to that 1962 performance.
Not only will the athletes will bring home their medals, but they are also set to receive incentives from the government as mandated by Republic Act No. 10699, or the National Athletes and Coaches Benefits and Incentives Act, which was signed into law in 2015.
Under the law, Filipino athletes who win medals at the Asian Games are entitled to the following incentives:
Gold: P2,000,000
Silver: P1,000,000
Bronze: P400,000
For team events with fewer than five participants, the team receives the equivalent of the corresponding individual medal incentive, which is then divided equally among the members.
For events with five or more participants, each athlete receives 25% of the corresponding individual incentive.
Yulo, Yape among top earners
Carlos Yulo, who won two gold medals in the Asian Games, is expected to receive P4 million in incentives.
Taekwondo jin Jeus Yape, meanwhile, won one gold and one bronze medal and is expected to receive P2.4 million.
Coaches are also entitled to incentives equivalent to half of the amount awarded to the athletes. If an athlete has more than one coach, the incentive is divided equally among the coaching staff.
Philippine Sports Commission chairman Patrick Gregorio previously said that the incentives for Filipino athletes and coaches had already reached around P35 million even before the final day of the Asian Games.
“Umaabot na po siya sa higit-kumulang mga P35 million in incentives or rewards to the Filipino athletes who won a medal, and that’s for the athletes and for the coaches,” he previously said.
(It has also reached around P35 million in incentives or rewards to the Filipino athletes who won a medal, and that’s for the athletes and for the coaches.)
For the medalists alone, the incentives are expected to amount to at least P23 million, based on the individual and small-team medals won by the Philippines.
