Wala pa umanong pasya si Senate President Vicente Sotto III kung tatakbo siya sa mas mataas na posisyon sa 2022 national elections, kung saan kabilang sa paglalabanan ang puwesto ng presidente at bise presidente.

"We say in Tagalog, mahirap magsalita ng tapos. But my priority, my first option is to retire," sabi ni Sotto sa panayam ng ANC.

Ayon kay Sotto, halos 30 taon na siya sa gobyerno, na nagsimula bilang bise alkalde [ng Quezon City] noong 1988 at sumabak sa pagkasenador noong 1992.

"It’s not really that easy to think about coming up with or running for a higher office. And then I have my political party to reckon with. We are somehow a bit crippled because of the demise of Ambassador Danding Cojuangco," paliwanag niya.

Si Sotto, 71-anyos,  ang pinakamataas na halal na opisyal ng Nationalist People's Coalition (NPC) na itinatag ni Cojuangco, na pumanaw nitong nakaraang buwan.

Nauna nang sinabi ni Sotto na magiging pagsubok sa kanila na panatilihing matatag ang kanilang partido matapos mawala si Cojuangco.

"We have to meet, we plan to meet after 40 days and see the plans of the party. I do not have any personal intentions of running for higher office at the moment," saad niya.

"We would probably help with just being a supporter. Depende, tingnan natin, I cannot say yes, I cannot say no at this point," dagdag ng senador. —FRJ, GMA News
