Alex Eala eyes Pan Pacific Open quarterfinals berth against Talia Gibson
Alexandra “Alex” Eala will face world No. 38 Talia Gibson of Australia in the second round of the Pan Pacific Open in Tokyo, Japan, on Wednesday afternoon.
Eala is coming off a dominant 6-1, 6-2 victory over Great Britain’s Mika Stojsavljevic last Monday, while Gibson advanced with a 6-0, 7-5 win over compatriot Daria Kasatkina in the Round of 32.
A win would send Eala to her first quarterfinal of this year’s Asian swing. She previously reached the round of 16 at the Singapore and Ningbo Opens before suffering a first-round exit at the Wuhan Open.
The winner of the Eala-Gibson match will face either third seed Diana Shnaider or world No. 112 Aliaksandra Sasnovich in the quarterfinals.
