Iniutos ng Sandiganbayan nitong Lunes na ilipat si Leyte Representative Martin Romualdez sa Male Dormitory ng Quezon City Jail. Ang naturang pasya ng anti-graft court, iginagalang ng dating House Speaker at muling iginiit na wala siyang kasalanan.

Ginawa ng Sandiganbayan ang kautusan matapos ihayag ng mga duktor sa Philippine General Hospital (PGH) na clinically stable si Romualdez at maaari na siyang ma-discharge o ilabas ng ospital matapos na masuri.

Ayon sa PGH, bagama’t kailangan pa ring subaybayan at gamutan sa mga natukoy na kondisyon ni Romualdez, hindi na kinakailangan ang pananatili niya sa ospital basta’t matitiyak na makatatanggap siya ng mga gamot na kailangan niya.

Inilipat si Romualdez sa PGH sa Maynila mula sa Cardinal Santos Medical Center sa San Juan City noong Sabado ng umaga.

Isinilbi ng mga awtoridad ang warrant of arrest laban kay Romualdez sa Cardinal Santos Medical Center kung saan siya nakaratay dahil sa kasong plunder na isinampa ng Ombudsman laban sa kaniya, kaugnay ng anomalya sa flood control projects.

Kasama ni Romualdez sa kasong plunder na nagkakahalaga ng P7.4 bilyon ang dating chairman ng House appropriations panel na si Zaldy Co ng Ako Bicol party-list, personal assistant ni Romualdez na si Joselyn Tragua Serenio, at presidente ng Samchan Foreign Exchange Corporation na si Felicito Cristobal Guevarra.

“By repeatedly receiving, directly or indirectly, on at least 15 occasions, commissions, shares, percentages. kickbacks, "commitments." and/or other pecuniary benefits aggregating at least P7.4 billion by reason or on account of the respective public offices and positions of Romualdez and Co, including monies derived from contractors, persons and entities with interests in flood control, infrastructure and/or other government projects funded under the General Appropriations Acts for fiscal years 2022 to 2025, which monies were delivered to properties owned by, occupied by, or associated with Romualdez and received by Serenio and other persons acting for and in his behalf,” nakasaad sa criminal information.

Haharapin ang kaso

Sa isang pahayag, sinabi ni Romualdez na iginagalang niya ang desisyon ng Sandiganbayan.

“I have always said that I will face the charges against me and answer them before the proper court. That has not changed,” saad ng dating Speaker.

“I maintain my innocence. Haharapin ko ang kaso. Sasagutin ko ang mga paratang,” dagdag niya.

Nagpasalamat din si Romualdez sa mga duktor, at sinabing patuloy niyang susundin ang payo ng mga ito.

“This is a difficult moment for me and my family. But I will face the days ahead with dignity, with faith in God, and with confidence in the truth,” giit niya.-- FRJ GMA News
