Pinalawig ni Pangulong Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. ang termino ni Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Police General Benjamin Acorda Jr. hanggang Marso 31, 2024.
“I wish to inform you that, pursuant to the provisions of existing laws, your service as Chief (Police General), Philippine National Police, is hereby extended until 31 March 2024,” saad ni Marcos sa sulat kay Acorda, na inilabas ni Presidential Communications Office (PCO) nitong Lunes.
Dapat sanang nagtapos nitong Linggo, December 3, ang panunungkulan ni Acorda sa pagsapit ng kaniyang mandatory retirement age na 56.
Una siyang itinalaga bilang PNP chief noong nakaraang Abril 24.
Ayon sa PCO, pinalawig ang termino ni Acorda dahil sa matagumpay niyang pamumuno sa kapulisan.
“Acorda has led the PNP to focus on an agenda for a more effective police force such as the Personnel Morale and Welfare, Community Engagement, Integrity Enhancement, ICT Development and Honest Law Enforcement Operations,” saad sa pahayag ng PCO.
Nagpasalamat naman si Acorda sa tiwala na panatilihin siya sa posisyon.
"I would like to express my deepest gratitude to our President Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos Jr. I am truly honored and humbled by his continued trust and confidence in my capability," sabi ni Acorda sa flag-raising ceremony sa Camp Crame kaninang umaga ng Lunes.
Ginamit na basehan ng Office of the President ang Executive Order No. 136, series of 1999 sa desisyon na patagalin si Acorda sa termino.
Nakasaad sa EO na may kapangyarihan ang Pangulo na aprubahan ang extension of service ng presidential appointees kahit matapos ang compulsory retirement age ng opisyal. —FRJ, GMA Integrated News
