Tinanggal sa trabaho ni Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Vince Dizon ang tatlong kawani ng Office of Transportation Security (OTS) sa Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), na pinagdudahang sangkot sa "tanim bala" modus. Ito ay matapos nilang sitahin ang isang 69-anyos na babaeng pasahero na mayroon umanong "anting-anting" na basyo ng bala sa bagahe kahit lumitaw na wala naman.
“Appropriate investigations will be conducted and the proper administrative charges will be filed after the investigation has been conducted. But now we are terminating them already today. I’ve already instructed General [OTS administrator Arthur Velasco] Bisnar to issue that order today,” pahayag ni Dizon sa media conference nitong Lunes.
“We will not stand for any abuse. Any abuse will be dealt with the same result and the same swift action from us, as mandated and as ordered to us by the President himself. We will not allow this to happen,” dagdag ng kalihim.
Nangyari ang insidente noong Marso 6 habang pasakay na sa eroplano ang 69-anyos na si Ruth Adel--kasama ang kaniyang pamilya--patungong Vietnam.
Sa social media post, sinabi Adel na muntik na silang maiwan ng eroplano nang pigilan sila ng NAIA security dahil may nakita umanong "anting-anting" na hugis bala sa x-ray image sa kaniyang bagahe.
Nang suriin ang bagahe, walang nakitang basyo ng bala ng baril.
Inatasan ni Dizon ang OTS na repasuhin ang kanilang screening and security protocols sa airport.
Maglalagay din ang DOTr ng "hotline" kung saan puwedeng mag-report ang mga pasahero ng kanilang mga karanasan sa NAIA.
Ayon kay Bisnar, patuloy pa ang kanilang imbestigasyon sa insidente pero may nakita na umano silang pagkukulang ng mga tauhan.
“Ang sinasabi ng ating personnel ay nagmamadaling kunin ng pasahero ang bagahe nila. So kahit may na-detect sila na mukhang basyo o bala sa x-ray, nung tinignan nila ay nakuha na ng pasahero,” saad ng opisyal.
“Ang mali naman na ginawa ay supposedly ang SOP ay doon mismo ‘yung physical check. So may pagkukulang rin talaga ang ating mga tao dahil hinabol pa nila sa boarding gate at hindi pa nila sigurado kung sino ‘yung pasahero at anong baggage ang involved,” dagdag niya.
Ikinalugod naman ni Senador Grace Poe, vice-chairperson of the Senate public services committee, ang mabilis na aksyon ng DOTr, pero iginiit niya na hindi na dapat bumalik sa naturang modus sa airport.
“Innocent travelers do not deserve the trauma and trouble caused by rogue airport personnel supposed to provide security, not imperil their safety,” ani Poe.
“As the investigation proceeds, we hope assistance could be extended to the 69-year-old victim of this disturbing case,” dagdag niya.
Inihayag naman ng New NAIA Infra Corp. (NNIC) na nakikipag-ugnayan sila sa OTS para sa dagdag na tauhan sa Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) bunga ng insidente.
“To prevent similar incidents and strengthen public confidence, NNIC is working with OTS to reinforce security monitoring, proper screening procedures, and transparency in security operations,” saad nito sa pahayag.
