May bagong Solicitor General ang administrasyon ni Pangulong Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. matapos niyang tanggapin ang pagbibitiw ni Menardo Guevarra.

Ngayong Huwebes, nanumpa kay Marcos bilang kapalit ni Guevarra sa naturang posisyon si Darlene Marie Berberabe, na dating CEO ng Pag-IBIG Fund.

Kasalukuyang dean sa University of the Philippines (UP) College of Law, si Berberabe.

Bukod kay Berberabe, nanumpa rin ngayong araw si Engr. Jose Ramon Aliling bilang bagong kalihim ng Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD), kapalit ni Jose Rizalino Acuzar, na inilipat naman bilang Presidential Adviser for Pasig River Development.

Kabilang din si Berberabe sa mga sumalang sa panayam ng Judicial and Bar Council (JBC) bilang kandidato sa posisyon na associate justice sa Korte Suprema, na mababakante sa pagreretiro ni Associate Justice Mario Lopez sa June 4, 2025.

Sa mensahe sa mga mamamahayag, inihayag ni Guevarra na masaya siya para kay Berberabe, na inilarawan niyang top-caliber lawyer na may impresibong management background.

Sinabi ni Guevarra na babalik siya sa kaniyang simpleng pribadong buhay.

"As for me, maybe it's time to go back to a quiet and peaceful private life," ani Guevarra.

Sa isang press briefing, sinabi ni Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin na naniniwala siya na walang kaugnayan ang naging sagot ng Office of the Solicitor General (OSG) sa SC noong Marso kaugnay sa consolidated habeas corpus petitions na inihain ng kampo ni dating Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte dahil sa pagdakip sa huli at pinadala sa International Criminal Court (ICC).

Matatandaan na noong Marso sa mosyon ng OSG bilang tugon sa petisyon, inihayag nito na "it may not be able to effectively represent respondents in these cases" dahil sa paninindigan ng tanggapan na walang hurisdiksyon ang ICC sa Pilipinas.

Kasunod nito, inihayag ng Malacañang na dapat suriin ni Guevarra ang sarili kung nais pa nitong magsilbi sa gobyerno bilang Solicitor General ng pamahalaan.

''I don’t think that that was a factor at all because if you recall, there was a strong clamor for the termination or removal of Solicitor General Guevarra at that time,'' ani Bersamin.

''The public perception that gave rise to this clamor must have been about his taking the opposite side of the issue. But, you know, he and the President had a conversation about this, and the President respected his ethical decision to recuse,'' dagdag ni Bersamin.

''Now, if there was a reservation about his professionalism at that time, the President could have already removed him. But the President continued to repose trust in him. So, up to the decision to accept his resignation, Solicitor General Guevarra was still there,'' dagdag niya.
