Isang resolusyon ang inihain ni Senador Robinhood Padilla para hilingin na ideklarang national artist ang namayapang mang-aawit na si Freddie Aguilar.
Sa Senate Resolution (SR) No. 1364, inihayag ni Padilla ang malaking kontribusyon ni Freddie sa musika at kultura ng Pilipinas, na dapat kilalanin sa ilalim ng Sec. 15, Art. XIV ng Konstitusyon, at Presidential Proclamation 1001.
"Ferdinand Pascual Aguilar, also known as Freddie Aguilar, who was born on Feb. 5, 1953, rose to fame in the late 1970s for his powerful and heartfelt compositions using folk rhythms and kundiman music," saad ni Padilla sa resolusyon.
"Given his achievements and contributions, Freddie Aguilar must be considered by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) and the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) for recommendation to the President as one of the country's national artists," dagdag ng senador na isa ring aktor.
Pumanaw kamakailan si Freddie sa edad na 72 dahil sa multiple organ failure.
Kabilang sa mga sikat niyang awitin ang “Anak,” na sumikat din sa ibang bansa, at isinalin sa 51 wika.
