Iminungkahi ni Surigao del Norte Representative Robert Ace Barbers na magkaroon ng mandatory drug testing sa mga artista bilang bahagi ng anti-illegal drugs drive ng pamahalaan. Pero si Senador Robin Padilla, pinuna ang naturang mungkahi.

Ginawa ni Barbers, chairman ng House dangerous drugs committee, ang pahayag nitong Lunes matapos na may artista na naman na nasakote kaugnay sa ilegal na droga.

Kamakailan lang, naaresto ng mga awtoridad sa isang buy bust operation sa Quezon City si Dominic Roco, kasama ang apat pang katao.

"They are being idolized by the youth. If they hear that their idols are involved in illegal drugs, it may influence them to do the same," sabi ni Barbers sa panayam ng CNN Philippines.

Ayon sa mambabatas, dapat obligahin ng mga producer, director, at network ang kanilang artista at production personnel na sumailalim sa drug tests.

"The test shouldn't cost more than P500, and producers pay so much for talent fees. The production staff can have periodic drug tests during a project," pahayag ni Barbers.

"The PDEA (Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency) or PNP (Philippine National Police) can issue a clearance, somewhat like an NBI (National Bureau of Investigation) clearance when getting a job," dagdag niya.

Suportado ni Philippine National Police chief Police General Rodolfo Azurin Jr., ang mungkahi ni Barbers.

Sinabi ng pinuno ng kapulisan, na makabubuti kung isasama ng mga network ang drug test bilang requirement sa kanilang mga talent.

Pero ayon sa actor-turned-lawmaker na si Senador Robin Padilla, labag sa karapatang pantao ang mungkahi ni Barbers.

"I am one in seeking to protect our fellow Filipinos from the ill effects of illegal drugs. This includes my fellow workers in the showbiz industry. However, we cannot oblige anyone to undergo a drug test, as it is tantamount to violating their human rights," saad ng senador sa isang pahayag.

Suportado naman ni Padilla ang "voluntary" drug tests para sa sariling kapakanan na kaligtasan ng tao.

"It would also be best if the employers shouldered the expenses for such drug tests," dagdag niya.

Kasabay nito, iminungkahi ng senador na ang mga government officials at mga empleyado ang dapat sumailalim sa drug testing para magsilbing mabuting halimbawa.

Matatandaan na noong 2019, inihayag ng PDEA na mayroong mga celebrity na sangkot sa ilegal na droga. Ilang artista na rin [kasalukuyang at dating aktibo sa showbiz] ang naaresto.—FRJ, GMA News
