Sinabi ng Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) ngayong Martes na bineberipika nila ang impormasyon na isang Pinoy ang nasawi sa Ukraine habang lumalaban para sa tropa ng Russia.
Batay sa lumabas na impormasyon, kinilala lang ang nasawing Pinoy bilang si “John Patrick,” na ni-recruit umano ng Russia at sumailalim sa isang linggong pagsasanay at ipadala na kaagad sa isang assault mission malapit sa Novoselivka, isang distrito sa Kramatorsk.
Ayon sa Euromaidan Press, iniwan umano siya ng mga kasamahang tropa ng Russia hanggang sa mamatay matapos masugatan.
"Verifying. We will inform you if there is a comment from the DFA," ayon kay Foreign Affairs spokesperson Angelica Escalona kaugnay ng naturang impormasyon.
Nang pumanaw, ayon sa ulat ng media, may dala umano ang Pinoy na armas, bala, at isang maliit na piraso ng papel.
"The paper contained his unit number, a phone number, and his commander's name. He reportedly didn't speak Russian," dagdag sa ulat, na nagsabing ang datos mula sa electronic device na nakuha umano mula sa Pinoy ay nagpapakita ng ginagawang pagkuha ng Russia ng mga dayuhan na isinasabak sa Ukraine.
Wala pang komento ang Russian embassy sa Manila tungkol dito.
'Unverified'
Samantala, sinabi ng Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) nitong Martes na hindi pa beripikado ang mga ulat tungkol sa pagkamatay ng isang Pinoy combatant na nagsilbi sa Russian Armed Forces laban sa Ukraine.
“This is still unverified report po. As of this time, we are conducting direct dapat yung sources natin for this. So sa ngayon po, hindi pa po natin ito ma-confirm because we have yet to receive word from official sources,” sabi ni AFP spokesperson Colonel Francel Margareth Padilla sa isang press briefing.
“This is still unverified report as of this time. So hindi po muna tayo mag-speculate po. It's still too early po to answer that,” dagdag niya.
Sa hiwalay na pahayag, sinabi ni Padilla na nakikipag-ugnayan ang AFP sa iba pang government agencies at counterparts para alamin ang katototohanan.
"We have taken note of the report circulating from Ukrainian defense sources. At this point, the information is still being validated through proper channels. The AFP does not rely on third-party battlefield reports alone to confirm the identity or nationality of individuals involved in foreign conflicts," saad ng opisyal.
"We are coordinating with relevant government agencies and official counterparts to verify the details. Until such verification is completed, it would be premature to confirm or deny the report. As a matter of policy, we deal in confirmed facts — not unverified claims," dagdag niya.
