Pumanaw na sa edad na 79 ang prominenteng politiko sa Cebu na si Cebu City Representative Raul del Mar.
Kinumpirma ni House Secretary General Atty. Jocelia Bighani Sipin sa GMA News Online ang pagpanaw ng kongresista.
Wala namang ibinigay na detalye tungkol sa dahilan ng pagpanaw ng mambabatas.
Sa isang pahayag, nagpaabot ng pakikiramay si Speaker Lord Allan Velasco sa mga naulila ni Del Mar.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and his constituencies in the first district of Cebu City, whom he had served well despite his health condition," anang lider ng Kamara de Representantes.
Ayon kay Velasco, kahit nasa ospital ay nagagawa ni Del Mar na makadalo sa virtual plenary sessions at public hearings sa Kamara.
Sinabi rin ni Velasco na hihirangin sana niyang deputy speaker si Del Mar.
"His contributions to Congress and the nation cannot be overstated, having served a total of nine terms as congressman since 1987. He was a mentor to me and many others," ani Velasco.
"The dedication of Congressman Del Mar to public service is truly remarkable and serves as an inspiration to many. We owe him a debt of gratitude. He will be missed," dagdag niya.
Nagsilbing kinatawan ng unang distrito ng Cebu City si Del Mar noong 1987-1998, 2001-2010, at 2013 hanggang sa kasalukuyan.
Senado, nagluluksa rin
Nagpaabot din ng pakikiramay sa mga kaanak ni Del Mar ang Senado.
"We'd like to give our deepest, deepest condolences on behalf of the Senate on the passing of Congressman Raul Del Mar," sabi ni Senate Majority Leader Juan Miguel Zubiri sa sesyon ng kapulungan.
Inaprubahan ng Senado ang resolusyon para ipahayag ang damdamin ng mga mambabatas sa pakikiramay sa pagpanaw ng kongresista.—FRJ, GMA News
