Pumanaw na nitong Miyerkoles dahil sa sakit na breast cancer ang 57-anyos na Philippine sports icon na si Lydia de Vega-Mercado.
Ang malungkot na balita ay ibinahagi ng kaniyang anak na si Stephanie Mercado de Koenigswarter.
"On behalf of our family, it is with absolute grief that I announce the death of my mother, Lydia De Vega this evening, August 10, 2022, at the Makati Medical Center," ayon kay Stephanie.
"She fought the very good fight and is now at peace," dagdag niya.
Taong 2018 nang matuklasan na mayroong breast cancer si De Vega.
Binansagan noon si De Vega na Asia's fastest woman at two-time gold medalist sa Asian Games.
Noong 2019, nakita si De Vega sa opening ceremonies ng Southeast Asian Games kung saan isa siya mga flag bearer kasama ang iba pang Philippine sports icons.--FRJ,GMA News
