Itinalaga ni Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte si Police Lieutenant General Vicente Danao Jr. bilang officer in charge ng Philippine National Police (PNP).
Kinumpirma ito ni Interior Secretary Eduardo Año nitong Huwebes, kasunod ng pagreretiro ni Police General Dionardo Carlos sa May 8, 2022, isang araw bago ang eleksyon.
“Yes that's true,” sagot ni Año sa GMA News Online sa mensahe nang tanungin tungkol sa pagkakapili kay Danao bilang PNP OIC.
Sa pahayag, binigyan-diin ni Año ang kahalagahan ng pagkakatalaga kay Danao dahil magsisimula ang liderato nito sa PNP, isang araw bago ang May 9 elections.
“As OIC of the PNP, Danao’s first order of the day is to ensure that all security preparations are in place and all police units are mobilized and on alert so that the country will have a peaceful, orderly and honest elections,” anang kalihim.
Ayon kay Año, naging bahagi si Danao sa planning at security preparations sa halalan dahil sa pagiging commander ng National Security Task Force on National and Local Elections.
“His designation as PNP OIC will not affect the ongoing security preparations being implemented by the PNP as he will be able to provide good leadership and direction to the entire police force for them to be able to fulfill their peacekeeping role in this important time of our country’s history,” paliwanag niya.
Inaasahan din ni Año na lalo pang paiigtingin ni Danao ang kampanya laban sa mga kriminal, terorista, ilegal na droga at iba pang uri ng krimen.
Sa ilalim ng Article 7 Section 15 ng Konstitusyon, maaari lang maghirang ng temporary appointment ang pangulo sa loob ng 60 araw bago ang halalan.
Bunsod na rin ito ng appointment ban sa panahon ng halalan.
Hinirang ni Duterte na PNP chief si Carlos noong Nobyembre 12, 2021, ang ikapitong PNP chief na itinalaga sa ilalim ng Duterte administration. —FRJ, GMA News
