Itinigil ni South Korean President Lee Jae-myung ang implementasyon ng pautang sa Pilipinas na nagkakahalaga ng 700 bilyong Korean won o tinatayang P28 bilyon, dahil sa alegasyon ng korupsiyon. Pero ayon sa Department of Finance (DOF), walang ganoong pautang sa bansa.
Sa Facebook post, inihayag ni Lee na, “I have ordered an immediate halt to the proceedings for the project.”
“What is most fortunate is that the project has not yet commenced, meaning funds such as the Economic Development Cooperation Fund (EDCF) support have not been expanded,” dagdag nito.
“There is significant meaning in preventing the unnecessary waste of 700 billion Korean won in taxpayer money and preemptively blocking risks that could lead to poor management and corruption,” sabi pa ng pangulo ng SKorea.
Nag-post din siya ng link mula sa ulat ng The Hankyoreh, na nagsasabing itinigil ng South Korea ang pagproseso sa kahilingan ng Pilipinas noong 2023 para sa isang loan sa ilalim ng EDCF para sa konstruksyon ng 350 tulay sa bansa.
Ginawa ni Lee ang pahayag sa harap ng isinasagawang imbestigasyon ng Senado at Kamara de Representantes tungkol sa katiwalian sa Pilipinas, na kinasasangkutan umano ng ilang mambabatas, kontratista at opisyal ng Department of Public Works and Highways tungkol sa flood control projects.
Gayunman, nilinaw ng Department of Finance (DOF), na walang ganoong P28-billion development assistance loan mula sa South Korea para sa Pilipinas.
“Nevertheless, we reaffirm to our bilateral partners that the Philippine government will match their trust and confidence with full transparency and accountability,” ayon sa DOF.
Samantala, nagpahayag din si Lee ng kahalagahan ng media bilang “watchdog of power and a salt that prevents societal corruption, playing a pivotal role in building a fair world.”
