Inakusahan ng Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) nitong Lunes ang China Coast Guard (CCG) na pinagpapalo ng baton ang mga tauhan ng Philippine Navy na papunta sa nakasadsad na BRP Sierra Madre sa Ayungin Shoal sa West Philippine Sea. Ang isang sundalong Pilipino, nagtamo ng matinding sugat sa ulo.

Iniulat ang insidente, ilang oras lamang matapos ipahayag ng Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) na magkikita ang mga top diplomat ng Pilipinas at China sa isang regional summit na gaganapin sa Maynila ngayong linggo.

Ayon sa pahayag ng Pilipinas, isang rigid-hull inflatable boat ng China Coast Guard na may sakay na walong tauhan ang umikot sa BRP Sierra Madre at kumuha ng mga larawan at video ng barko, na nakasadsad sa Ayungin Shoal (Second Thomas Shoal).

Inaangkin ng China ang halos kabuuan ng South China Sea, kabilang ang West Philippine Sea, sa kabila ng desisyon ng isang international arbitral tribunal na nagsasabing walang legal na batayan ang naturang pag-aangkin.

Ayon sa AFP, naganap ang insidente matapos magpadala ang panig ng Pilipinas ng dalawang rubber boat upang paalisin ang mga sasakyang pandagat ng China na umiikot-ikot sa BRP Sierra Madre.

"The [Chinese Coast Guard] personnel reacted violently and aggressively by striking a Philippine Navy personnel on the head with a wooden baton, causing injury and damaging the Navy rubber boat," saad sa pahayag.

Sa kabila ng nangyari, iginiit ng AFP na naging propesyonal ang kanilang mga tauhan at kumilos alinsunod sa umiiral na batas. Nanawagan din ito sa People's Liberation Army at China Coast Guard na itigil na ang kanilang “illegal, coercive, aggressive, and deceptive actions" sa West Philippine Sea.

"These latest aggressive actions and assault by the CCGV demonstrate a blatant disregard for safety, endanger the lives of our personnel and escalates tensions in the West Philippine Sea," ayon sa AFP.

"The AFP remains steadfast in protecting the country's sovereign rights and jurisdiction. Our lawful presence and sustainment operations in Ayungin Shoal will continue," dagdag nito. "No act of coercion or aggression will deter us from carrying out our constitutional mandate or exercising the Philippines' lawful rights in the West Philippine Sea."

Sa hiwalay na pahayag, sinabi ng Department of National Defense (DND) na ang insidente ay bahagi ng "clear pattern of provocative and hostile behavior" ng China Coast Guard.

"The latest act of violence and harassment committed by the China Coast Guard against Philippine Navy personnel stationed at the BRP Sierra Madre in Ayungin Shoal adds to a clear pattern of provocative and hostile behavior, and further contributes to the People’s Republic of China’s deficit of trust and credibility," saad nito.

Hindi agad tumugon ang Embahada ng China sa Maynila nang hingan ng kanilang pahayag hinggil sa insidente.

Ayon sa AFP, nagtamo ng sugat sa ulo ang sundalong Pilipino na kaagad ginamot sa Western Command ng AFP.

Kaugnay nito, kinondena ng DFA ang ginawang marahas na aksyon ng CCG sa mga tauhan ng Philippine Navy.

"The DFA is in coordination with the AFP regarding the details of the incident. Any act of violence against Filipino personnel is unacceptable and will merit the appropriate diplomatic action.
