Nagpirmahan na ng memorandum of agreement ang Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) at Austrian Federal Ministry for Labor and Economy (BMAW) para magpadala ng mga manggagawang Pinoy sa Austria.

Sa ilalim ng MOU, 500 Filipino workers ang ipadadala sa Austria bawat taon para punan ang nasa aabot sa 200,000 job openings sa iba't ibang industriya. Kabilang dito ang healthcare, construction and engineering, information technology, at tourism and hospitality.

“Through this agreement, we aim to facilitate the deployment of Filipino professionals and skilled workers to Austria in a manner that is safe, ethical, sustainable, and mutually beneficial. Our workers, in return, will contribute to addressing labor shortage in Austria and to sharing their expertise and commitment to the economic development of Austria,” sabi ni DMW Officer-in-Charge Hans Leo Cacdac sa isang pahayag.

Inihayag naman ni BMAW State Secretary Susanne Kraus-Winkler, na ang Pilipinas ang unang bansa na nagkaroon sila ng MOU.

“Austria is focusing on attracting skilled workers abroad. The Philippines is the first country which Austria has entered into a memorandum of understanding that covers all areas of mutual cooperation on recruitment and vocational training," ayon sa dayuhang opisyal.

"Austria has many decades of excellent experience with qualified workers from the Philippines, and we are truly grateful for the reliable support,” dagdag pa ni Kraus-Winkler.

Nakapaloob din sa MOU ang pagpapalakas ng proteksyon sa karapatan at kapakanan ng mga manggagawang Pinoy doon. Paghuhusayin din ang kakayahan at kagalingan ng mga Pinoy worker na ipadadala sa Austria.

Ayon sa DMW, sa datos noong 2022, may 5,824 OFWs ngayon ang nasa Austria, kabila ang 1,220 OFWs na nasa hospitality and food service category,  at 749 ang nasa health and social work service sector.

Sa ulat ni Sandra Aguinaldo sa GTV Balita Ko nitong Huwebes, sinabing bukod sa maayos na benepisyo, aabot sa 2,000 euros ang minimum wage sa Austria na katumbas ng P120,000 kada buwan. At puwede pa umanong makakuha ng hanggang 14th month pay.

Pero sabi ng isang opisyal ng Austria, higit pa sa minimum wage ang ibinibigay doon ng mga empolyer sa ngayon.

Plano rin ng DMW na maglagay ng labor attache sa Vienna, Austria para matiyak na may tutugon sa mga magiging problema doon ng mga manggagawang Pinoy. --FRJ, GMA Integrated News
