Kinumpirma ng Philippine National Police-Crime Laboratory na sina dating Batangas Representative Edgar Mendoza at dalawa niyang kasama ang tatlong sunog na bangkay na nakita sa sunog na sasakyan sa Tiaong, Quezon kamakailan.
Ito ang inihayag ni PNP spokesman Police Brigadier General Bernard Banac sa press conference na ginawa sa Camp Crame sa Quezon City nitong Miyerkules.
Bukod kay Mendoza, ang dalawa niyang kasama sa sasakyan ay ang driver na si Ruel Ruiz at bodyguard niya na si Nicanor Mendoza.
"The bodies were burned beyond recognition. DNA test was conducted to establish their identities. Through DNA comparison with their children, they were confirmed to be Edgar Mendoza, Nicanor Mendoza and Ruel Ruiz," ayon kay Banac.
Pero hindi pa raw malinaw ang imbestigasyon kung ano ang motibo sa karumal-dumal na krimen.
Una rito, iniulat din ng pulisya na limang suspek ang inaresto kaugnay sa kaso ni Mendoza.
"We have several persons under custody now who we believe are connected in the killing of former Congressman Edgar Mendoza," pahayag ni Police Brigadier General Joel Coronel, hepe ng Philippine National Police - Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP - CIDG).
"They are undergoing investigation as of the moment," dagdag niya. "We are on the process of gathering additional evidence."
"We will be consulting with the Department of Justice prosecutors on this account so we would be able to file a strong case against these suspects," patuloy pa ng opisyal.
Sinabi naman ni Banac na inaalam pa ng mga imbestigador kung sino pa ang ibang sangkot sa krimen.
"Patuloy pa rin ang pagsasagawa ng imbestigasyon ng PNP at maaaring may iba pang may kinalaman sa krimen, sinisimulan na ang imbestigasyon dito sa limang arestadong suspek," paliwanag niya. — FRJ, GMA News
