Ibinigay ni Senador Juan Miguel "Migz" Zubiri ang suporta niya sa nagbabalik-Senado na si Senador Vicente "Tito" Sotto III para maging Senate president sa papasok na 20th Congress.
Ayon kay Zubiri na dati ring Senate president, hindi siya kontento sa pamamahala ng kasalukuyang lider ng Senado na si Senador Francis "Chiz" Escudero.
"If you ask me, I'm for a leader of the Senate who keeps protecting the integrity, the traditions of the Senate. Hindi ko gusto na ang lider sa Senate will be dictatorial type. I don't want us to be similar to other chambers where it is only one emperor who dictates all the instructions to the members of the body," paliwanag ni Zubiri sa mga mamamahayag nitong Miyerkules ng gabi.
"And if you ask me if I am satisfied with the leadership of the Senate, I'm not satisfied with the leadership of the Senate, so I am open to supporting other candidates for Senate presidency," dagdag ni Zubiri.
Ayon sa kaniya, bubuuin ang "veteran bloc" sa 20th Congress, na kabibilangan niya, kasama sina Sotto, Loren Legarda, at Panfilo "Ping" Lacson.
"Of course, initially, we're pushing for Senator Sotto as the Senate President because I was his majority leader. I'm a loyal majority leader of the Senate President," sabi pa ni Zubiti.
Umaasa siya na pipiliin ng mga senador sa 20th Congress ang bagong Senate president na ipagpapatuloy ang pagiging indepedyante ng Senado na huling tanggulan ng demokrasya—at hindi lang dahil sa pagiging kritiko ng Kamara de Representantes.
"Kasi may nagsasabi, gusto namin itong kandidato kasi inaaway niya si Speaker Martin (Romualdez)—that's not the role of the Senate President. The role of the Senate President is to steer the Senate as a ship no matter how rough the waters are—to show the people that the Senate is our ship of state that will never break down, it will never surrender its principles, its traditions," paliwanag ni Zubiri.
Sinisikap pa ng GMA News Online na makuhanan ng pahayag si Escudero, na naging Senate president noong May 2024 matapos palitan si Zubiri sa puwesto.
