Mariing itinanggi ni Speaker Martin Romualdez na nakinabag siya sa umano’y katiwalian sa paggamit ng pondong inilaan sa mga flood control projects. Ayon sa lider ng Kamara de Representantes, dapat managot ang sino mang gumamit sa kaniyang pangalan.
"I cannot and will not allow lies and name-dropping to pass unchecked," saad ni Romualdez sa pahayag nitong Lunes.
"The claim in the Discaya couple’s affidavit that my name was used for commissions is false, malicious, and nothing more than name-dropping. Let me be clear: Wala akong kinalaman, wala akong pahintulot, at wala akong basbas sa mga ganyang gawain," dagdag niya.
Sa pagdinig ng Senate Blue Ribbon Committee nitong Lunes, tinukoy ng mag-asawang kontratista na sina Sarah at Curlee Discaya, ang ilang kongresista, mga staff nito, at ilang opisyal sa Department of Public Works and Highways na umano’y kumukuha ng komisyon sa nakukuha nilang flood control projects.
Ayon kay Romualdez, dapat managot sa batas ang mga gumamit sa kaniyang pangalan para makakuha ng kontrata at komisyon sa mga proyekto.
"If anyone invoked my name, they did so without my knowledge and without my consent. At kung ginawa nila iyon para kumita, sila ang mandaraya at sila ang dapat managot. And I say this with all honesty: I have never, and I will never, accept a bribe from anybody," pahayag ng kongresista.
Kaugnay nito, itinanggi naman ni Ako Bicol Party-list Representative Zaldy Co, nagpasok siya ng P13 bilyong halaga ng “insertions” sa P6.3-trillion national budget ngayong 2025.
Tugon ito ni Co, dating chairman ng House appropriations committee, sa alegasyon ni Navotas Representative Tobias Tiangco, nang humarap ang huli sa Senate Blue Ribbon hearing tungkol pa rin sa flood control projects.
"I vehemently deny all the baseless and irresponsible accusations made against me during the Senate hearing held today. These unsubstantiated claims which attempt to implicate me are not only hearsay but are also politically motivated, designed to mislead the public and deflect accountability,” saad sa pahayag ni Co.
Paliwanag niya, hindi lang siya ang nagdedesisyon sa 2025 General Appropriations Act at sa mga probisyon nito. Inaaprubahan ito ng Kamara at Senado, at saka nilagdaan ni Pangulong Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos, Jr.
Idinagdag niya na may veto power o kapangyarihan ang Pangulo na alisin ang mga nakalagay sa budget na nais nitong tanggalin.
“As mentioned during the Senate hearing, the President even vetoed some provisions and withheld the release of funds for projects,” giit niya.
Gayunman, hindi na nagbigay ng iba pang paliwanag si Co dahil nasa Korte Suprema na ang usapin matapos na may magkuwestiyon tungkol sa 2025 budget. Iniimbestigahan din ito ng Office of the Ombudsman.
“For this reason, I am unable to comment on the matter to the public but reserve my right to comment on this matter, if and when, required by the courts where this matter is pending,” paliwanag niya.
Kabilang ang Sunwest Inc., sa mga kompanya na tinukoy ni Marcos na nakuha umano ng maraming flood control projects.
