Pinaigting ng Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO) sa Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia ang kampanya para protektahan ang mga overseas Filipino worker (OFW) doon.
Ayon kay Labor Attaché Fidel Macauyag, sa loob lang ng isang buwan ay sinuspinde nila ang 39 na recruitment agencies sa KSA, kabilang ang 18 kompanya, at inilagay sa blacklist ang 40 employer.
“This is part of our campaign to cleanse the recruitment agencies. We have over 600 Saudi recruitment agencies, but maybe we can compress this number to 100 or even less in the coming months," anang opisyal.
"We do not need many recruitment agencies, we just need a few good ones, which can be our partners,” dagdag ni Macauyag, sa inilabas na pahayag nitong Linggo.
Ayon pa kay Macauyag, bumuo ang POLO ng grupo ng mga welfare officers at support staff called na tinawag na Team Camel na tutulong sa mga distressed OFW.
Mas magiging mahigpit din umano ang POLO Riyadh sa pagberipika sa mga kompanya at recruitment agencies para matiyak na tumutugon sila sa batas at nagmamalasakit sa mga OFW.
“We tell owners of recruitment agencies that they should have a welfare officer who has the skill and the compassion to take care of our OFWs, especially the distressed ones. Agencies are solidary and jointly liable with employers. That is why if anything bad happens to our OFWs, this is part of their responsibility,” paliwanag niya.
Nitong Sabado, pinayagan na muli ng Department of Labor and Employment na bumiyahe papunta sa KSA ang mga OFW, makaraang pagpatupad ng temporarily deployment noong Biyernes.
Ninais ng DOLE na linawin sa pamahalaan ng KSA na ang mga employer at hindi ang mga OFW ang dapat na magpasan sa gastusin sa health and safety protocol for COVID-19 and insurance coverage pagdating nila sa naturang bansa.--FRJ, GMA News
