Namataan ang sentro ni Opong sa karagatan ng Dolores, Eastern Samar, at taglay ang pinakalamakas na hangin na 120 kilometers per hour malapit sa gitna, at pagbugso ng hanggang 165 kilometers per hour.
Kumikilos ito pa-kanluran hilagang-kanluran sa bilis na 25 kilometers per hour.
Ayon sa PAGASA, inaasahang magla-landfall si Opong sa Northern Samar o hilagang bahagi ng Eastern Samar bandang hatinggabi hanggang madaling araw ng Biyernes, Setyembre 26, bago tumungo sa Bicol Region.
Posible ang pangalawang landfall sa Sorsogon o Masbate sa umaga ng Biyernes. – FRJ GMA Integrated News
