Inihayag ng Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) nitong Sabado na may kabuuang 341 na mga distressed at stranded na overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) na apektado ng gulo sa Middle East ang nakatakdang pauwiin sa Pilipinas sa pamamagitan ng charter flight.
Ang mga magbabalik na OFW ay mula sa Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, at Bahrain.
Ayon sa OWWA, ang charter flight ay nakatakdang lumipad mula Riyadh papuntang Maynila sa Marso 14.
Dagdag ng ahensiya, tinutulungan na ang OFWs mula sa Bahrain ng mga tauhan ng OWWA, Department of Migrant Workers (DMW), at mga Philippine Embassy sa Riyadh at Manama “to cross land borders and proceed to Riyadh, where they will board the [charter] flight back to the Philippines.”
Sinabi pa ng OWWA na maraming OFWs mula Kuwait ang kasalukuyan nang tinutulungan ng mga ahensiya ng pamahalaan sa pagproseso ng travel clearances at land border crossings para marating nila ang staging area sa Riyadh para sa nakatakdang repatriation flight.
Sinabi pa ng ahensiya na nagbigay na rin ang gobyerno ng iba't ibang uri ng welfare assistance habang kinukumpleto ang mga kinakailangan para sa pagpapauwi, kabilang ang tulong sa travel documentation, pansamantalang akomodasyon, suporta sa transportasyon, at iba pang agarang pangangailangan.
“The primary objective of this repatriation operation is to ensure the safety of our OFWs and bring them home safely to their families in the Philippines,” sabi nito.
“The operation is funded through the Emergency Repatriation Fund administered by OWWA to ensure the safe and orderly return of Filipinos affected by the current situation in the Middle East,” dagdag nito.
Sinabi pa ng OWWA na inaayos na ang mga karagdagang charter flight para ipagpatuloy ang operasyon sa repatriation at tulungan ang distressed OFWs o iba pang hinihiling na bumalik sa Pilipinas mula sa mga apektadong lugar sa rehiyon.
Inaasahang darating sa Pilipinas ang special charter flight sa NAIA sa Marso 15.
“Under the directive of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., OWWA arranged this charter flight to assist Filipinos who wish to return from KSA, Kuwait, and Bahrain due to the ongoing tensions in the Middle East,” sabi ng OWWA.
“The repatriation effort is being carried out in coordination with the DMW, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), the Philippine Embassies in Riyadh, Manama, and Kuwait, and Filipino communities in the region, demonstrating a whole-of-government approach to ensuring the safety of Filipinos overseas,” sabi pa nito. —Jamil Santos/Ted Cordero/VBL GMA Integrated News
