Inaprubahan ng Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) ang panukala ng Manila Electric Company (Meralco) na ibalik nila ang sobrang siningil sa kanilang mga kostumer na aabot sa halos P20 bilyon.
Sa ulat ng GTV News Balitanghali nitong Biyernes, sinabing makatatanggap ang mga residential customer ng Meralco ng 19 centavos per kilowatt-hour (kWh) na refund sa loob ng tatlong taon.
Sakop ng naturang halaga ang “over-recovery of rates for the lapsed period from July 1, 2022 to December 31, 2024.”
Nitong nakaraang Enero, inihayag ng Meralco ang mungkahi nitong refund ng mahigit P19-bilyon na sakop ang pagkakaiba actual weighted average tariff, at huling inaprubahang rate na P1.36 per kWh mula July 2022 hanggang December 2024.
Kasama sa kautusan ng ERC na dapat kaagad ipatupad ang refund sa susunod na billing kapag natanggap na nila ang kautusan.
“The commission further directed Meralco to reflect the refund rate as a separate line item in customer bills as ‘AWAT(Refund)/Collect.’ The distribution utility is also required to submit a report in the prescribed format until the amount of over-recovery has been fully refunded,” ayon sa ERC.
Sa isang pahayag, sinabi ni Meralco spokesperson Joe Zaldarriaga na hindi pa nila natatanggap ang opisyal na kautusan ng ERC.
"We welcome this development as this will provide relief to our customers especially as we approach the summer months when rates historically increase due to high demand for electricity," ani Zaldarriaga.
Kamakailan lang, inanunsyo ng Meralco na tataas ang singil sa kuryente ngayong Marso na nagkakahalaga ng 26 centavos per kilowatt-hour (kWh).-- FRJ, GMA Integrated News
