Itinanggi ng National Bureau of Investigation ang mga inihayag ni dating congressman Mike Defensor na binugbog, ikinulong, at dinala nila sa Chile ang isang tauhan ni dating congressman Zaldy Co.
Nitong Lunes, naglabas ng pahayag ang NBI “to clarify and correct the misleading allegations made by former Congressman Mike Defensor” tungkol sa umano’y ginawa ng ahensiya sa tauhan ni Co na si John Paul Estrada, at asawa nito.
“We categorically deny the claims that Mr. Estrada and his wife were beaten or harmed… that they were unlawfully held by NBI personnel; and… they were provided with fake passports or flown out of the country to prevent testimony,” ayon sa NBI tungkol sa rebelasyon ni Defensor.
“These allegations are unfounded, unsupported by evidence, and purely speculative. No complaint, report, or medical record exists showing that Mr. Estrada or his wife suffered physical harm. There is no record of their custody under the NBI,” dagdag nito.
Sa isang panayam kay Defensor ng Bilyonaryo, sinabi ng dating mambabatas na binigyan umano ng pekeng passports ng mga tauhan ng NBI ang mag-asawa para magtungo sa Chile upang hindi makapagtestigo tungkol sa mga imbestigasyon sa maanomalyang flood control projects na sangkot din si Co.
Hinamon ng NBI si Defensor na magpakita ng katibayan para suportahan ang mga pahayag nito, bagay na tiniyak umano sa kanila ng dating mambabatas.
Kung magagawa ito ni Defensor, sinabi ng NBI na magsasagawa sila ng kaukulang imbestigasyon.
“Absent any credible proof, these allegations remain unfounded, cannot be given weight, and may even lead to prosecution for its malicious intent to undermine the credibility and integrity of the Bureau,” ayon sa NBI.
