Hindi pinalampas ng isang cultural critic ang pagsusuot ni Beauty Gonzalez sa GMA Gala 2023 ng mga alahas na umano'y sinaunang ginto o antigong "death mask."
Sa ulat ni Cata Tibayan sa GTV News "SONA" nitong Miyerkules, ipinakita ang panayam kay Beauty sa naturang pagtitipon na ipinaliwanag niya na ang suot niyang alahas ay nagmula sa nahukay na sinaunang libingan sa Mindanao.
Ilan umano sa mga alahas ay itinakip sa mata at inilagay sa bibig ng yumao. Tinatayang 800 hanggang 1,000 taon na ang edad umano ng alahas.
Ipinakita rin sa ulat ang post sa social media ng cultural critic and independent curator na si Marian Pastor Roces, na tinawag niyang "grave robber stuff" o nakaw ang mga suot na alahas ng aktres.
"Someone tell this woman that the orifice covers she is paying 'homage' to are grave robber stuff. Because if these were legally excavated, the pieces would belong to the National Museum or the Bangko Sentral," ayon sa post ni Roces sa Facebook.
"Or, if the pieces were excavated decades ago and therefore privately owned by sensible collectors before current restrictions, the question still remains: why death masks as necklace?" dagdag niya. "Sure, the owners have been dead for a thousand years. BUT."
Puna pa ni Roces, "This fashion victim is wearing mouth and eye covers: around 10 of them. Which is to say that the necklace was fashioned from excavations of many individuals. That is an astounding number of desecrated graves!"
"How on earth is this an homage, exhibiting impunity and crassness? Wearing archaeological gold death pieces, flaunting excess, is odious," ayon pa sa kritiko.
Sinusubukan pang mahingan ng pahayag si Beauty tungkol sa mga sinabi ni Roces.
