Naglabas ng abiso ang Philippine Embassy sa Washington laban sa pag-iingat at pamamahagi ng child pornography sa Amerika, kasunod ng mga insidente ng pag-aresto umano sa mga tripulanteng Pinoy habang sakay ng mga barko at nasa karagatan ng US.

“In view of increasing incidents of arrests, detention and deportation of individuals due to child pornography-related offenses, the Philippine embassy reminds the members of the Filipino community and overseas Filipino workers in the United States and onboard vessels in US territorial waters, that child pornography is one of the worst forms of child exploitation and to consume it perpetuates such exploitation,” saad sa abiso ng embahada noong July 19.

Walang tinukoy na partikular na insidente sa abiso, pero inilabas ang naturang pahayag matapos iulat ng US online news site na Wavy ang pag-aresto umano sa mga tripulanteng Pinoy sa Carnival Sunshine cruise ship sa Port of Norfolk, Virginia.

Sapilitang inalis umano mula sa barko at pinosasan ang mga kamay ng mga tripulanteng Pinoy na mayroong valid 10-year C-1/D visas,, ayon sa ulat. Sinabi ng mga opisyal ng Customs and Border Protection na inaakusahan ang mga inaresto ng pag-iingat ng child pornography.

“In this regard, everyone is enjoined to desist from downloading, possessing, viewing, transporting, distributing and selling child pornography,” saad sa abiso ng embahada.

Hinihintay pa ng GMA News ang tugon mula sa Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) at Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) hinggil sa naturang usapin.

Sa ilalim ng nagdaaang administrasyong Biden, mas pinaigting ng US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) at ng Customs and Border Protection (CBP) ang mga operasyon sa mga cruise ship laban sa child pornography.

Kinondena ni Aquilina Soriano Versoza, executive director ng Pilipino Workers Center, ang ginagawang pag-aresto sa mga tripolante. Ayon sa grupo, biglaan at walang sapat na ebidensya ang ginawang pagdakip sa mga Pilipino, na tila hindi nasunod ang tamang proseso ng batas.
