Nagbitiw na si Tab Baldwin bilang head coach ng men's basketball team ng Ateneo de Manila University.
Kinumpirma ito ni Fr. Roberto 'Bobby' Yap sa isang press conference nitong Lunes, at sinabing tinanggap ng unibersidad ang pagbibitiw ni Baldwin na epektibo kaagad.
"We will not shield or protect anyone nor will we allow their integrity to be compromised," sabi ni Yap sa unang media appearance ng unibersidad, isang linggo matapos mangyari ang trahedya nang malunod sa training ng koponan sa Dipaculao, Aurora sina Rene Baterbonia at Divine Adili.
"With this, I also must inform everyone that the University has accepted the resignation of head coach Tab Baldwin effective immediately," dagdag ni Yap.
Pinamunuan ni Baldwin ang basketball program ng Ateneo mula noong 2016 at dinala ang Blue Eagles sa apat na kampeonato sa UAAP, kabilang ang tatlong sunod na titulo mula 2017 hanggang 2019.
"We thank him for the years of service to the Blue Eagles. But as we enter a period of deep institutional review, a change in leadership is necessary," sabi ni Yap.
Inihayag din ng unibersidad na bumaba na rin sa kaniyang posisyon si men's basketball team manager Epok Quimpo.
"Yes, team manager Epok Quimpo has also submitted his resignation and we have also accepted it," ani Yap.
Noong Huwebes, inanunsyo ng unibersidad na pansamantalang nag-leave sina Baldwin at Quimpo upang mapanatili ang integridad ng isinasagawang na imbestigasyon sa nangyaring trahedya. — FRJ GMA News
