Tinanggap umano ni Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte ang paghikayat ng PDP-Laban na pinamumunuan ng paksiyon ni Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi, na tumakbo siyang bise presidente sa Eleksiyon 2022.
“President Duterte agreed to make the sacrifice, heed the clamor of the people, and accepted the endorsement of PDP-Laban party for him to run as Vice President in the 2022 national elections,” ayon sa inilabas na pahayag ng partido nitong Martes.
Ang naturang pahayag ay pirmado ni Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles, tumatayong PDP-Laban executive vice president.
Ayon kay presidential spokesperson Harry Roque, may iaanunsiyo si Duterte sa kaniyang address to the nation mamayang gabi.
Idinagdag ni Roque na nag-usap sina Duterte at Cusi nitong Lunes ng gabi.
"I can only confirm na kagabi nagpulong po ang Presidente kasama ang pangulo ng PDP-Laban na si Secretary Cusi, kasama rin si presidential assistant to the Visayas Michael Dino, pero hindi po ako kasama sa pagpupulong," anang opisyal.
"I do not have personal knowledge on what transpired and I will leave it to PDP-Laban as a political party to make the proper announcement," dagdag ni Roque.
Mayroong dalawang paksiyon ang PDP-Laban.
Ang kabilang grupo ay pinamumunuan nina Senador Manny Pacquiao at Koko Pimentel.
May nakabinbing petisyon sa Commission on Elections (Comelec) para pag-aralan at magpasya kung kaninong paksiyon ang kikilalanin ng Comelec.
Kabilang ang pangalan ni Pacquiao sa mga lumalabas sa survey na posibleng tumakbong pangulo sa 2022 election.
Sa pahayag ng PDP-Laban-Cusi faction, sinabing pumayag si Duterte na tumakbong vice president, "[a]fter being presented with popular calls from PDP Laban regional, provincial, and down to barangay councils aspiring for a transition of leadership that will guarantee continuity of the administration's programs during the past five years."
Kabilang umano rito ang paglaban sa terorismo, rebelde, katiwalian, kahirapan, at ilegal na droga.
Naging matagumpay naman daw ang Build-Build-Build Program at 10-Point Socio-Economic Agenda.
Dapat din umanong matiyak na maipagpapatuloy ang COVID-19 Vaccination Program para malabanan ang pandemic.
Samantala, inihayag din ng partido ang ilan sa mga posibleng maging kandidato nila sa senatorial race na kinabibilangan nina Deputy Speaker Rodante Marcoleta; Information and Communications Technology Secretary Gregorio Honasan; Chief Presidential Legal Counsel Salvador Panelo; Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade; at Public Works and Highways Secretary Mark Villar.
Magkakaroon ng national convention ang partido sa September 8 sa San Jose del Monte Convention Center sa San Jose del Monte City, Bulacan. —FRJ, GMA News
