Pumanaw na sa edad na 72 ang batikang direktor na si Amable “Tikoy” Aguiluz VI.

“Our hearts are deeply saddened to learn about the passing of our esteemed peer, Direk Tikoy,” saad sa inilabas na pahayag ng Directors Guild of the Philippines Incorporated (DGPI) sa Facebook post nitong Lunes.

Inilarawan ng grupo si Direk Tikoy na isang “visionary,” “maverick,” at “true champion of the Philippine cinema.

“Our prayers and thoughts are with his family and friends. May he rest in peace,” ayon pa sa DGPI.

Sa ulat ng PEP.ph, kinumpirma rin ng pamilya ni Aguiluz ang pagpanaw ng direktor.

"With heavy hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved Amable ‘Tikoy’ Aguiluz VI or Direk Tikoy to most of us. While we grieve this loss deeply, we kindly ask for your understanding as we choose to mourn in private for the time being," ayon sa pamilya.

Ipapaalam ng pamilya ang detalye sa burol ng direktor kapag nakahanda na.

“We assure you that once we are ready, we will share details about a public service where all who knew and loved Direk Tikoy can join us in paying tribute and saying our final goodbyes," saad nila.

“Your patience, understanding, and support mean the world to us as we navigate through this period of grief. We thank you for your thoughts, prayers, and expressions of sympathy during this time,” dagdag nito.

Si Aguiluz ay co-founder ng University of the Philippines Film Center, na UP Film Institute na ngayon.

Siya rin ang nagtatag ng Cinemanila International Film Festival at direktor ng "Boatman," "Manila Kingpin," at "Segurista."

Nanalo si Aguiluz ng Gawad Urian Best Director sa sa Segurista noong 1996, naging Best Director naman siya sa 2011 Metro Manila Film Festival para sa “Manila Kingpin.” — FRJ, GMA Integrated News
