Magkahiwalay na pinaratangan nina Vice President Sara Duterte at dating Senate President Francis Escudero ngayong Lunes si dating Speaker at Leyte Representative Martin Romualdez, na agad namang may sagot at sariling paratang laban sa dalawa.
Sa isang press conference sa Senado matapos dumalo ni Duterte sa pagdinig ng komite tungkol sa 2026 budget ng kaniyang tanggapan bilang bise presidente, sinabi niya na, "Hindi lang sa flood control, pati sa ano…sa illegal gambling tumatanggap sila. Si Martin Romualdez. So hindi lang siya sa flood control."
Sinabi naman ni Romualdez na gawa ng imahinasyon ang mga alegasyon ni Duterte at walang patunay.
"Naririnig ko ang mga akusasyon. Diretsahan kong sasabihin: hindi totoo na ako’y tumatanggap mula sa ilegal na sugal," anang dating lider.
Ayon pa kay Romualdez, walang kredibilidad si Duterte na nahaharap sa reklamong ng paglustay ng P625 milyong halaga ng confidential funds.
"Nakakalungkot na ang mismong Bise Presidente, na inakusahan at na-impeach ng House dahil sa maling paggamit ng pondo, ay siya pang nagkakalat ng ganitong kasinungalingan. When the source itself has lost credibility, why should anyone believe these baseless claims?" dagdag ng kongresista.
Sa kaniya namang pahayag sa plenaryo sa Senado, sinabi ni Escudero na si Romualdez ang nasa likod ng paghahain ng umano’y "unconstitutional" impeachment complaint laban kay Duterte.
“And that is why, at the height of the impeachment controversy and amidst the passion of some sectors to remove the Vice President at all cost, I urged prudence and level-headedness because I knew that greed and not accountability was the reason behind it,” paliwanag niya.
Sagot naman ni Romualdez, "I listened to the privilege speech of Sen. Chiz Escudero. With respect, what we heard was not an exposé but a DDS script — the same recycled accusations we have long seen on troll pages and social media posts. Walang bago, at wala ring katotohanan.”
“My record can withstand scrutiny. Wala akong itinatago,” dagdag niya.
Sabi pa ng dating speaker, “Malinaw naman ang katotohanan: ang talumpati ni Sen. Escudero ay hindi tungkol sa pananagutan, kundi para isulong ang kanyang personal na ambisyon. It was a performance designed to profess loyalty and service to Vice President Sara Duterte, and to position himself as her ally for 2028.”
“Ang tunay na pinagsisilbihan ay hindi ang katotohanan, kundi ang sariling interes at plano sa politika,” dagdag niya.
Pinuna rin ni Romualdez na walang ginawang paliwanag si Escudero tungkol sa pagkakasangkot nito sa isyu ng flood-control projects.
“Instead of answering the serious questions he himself must face, Senator Escudero chose to deflect. He did not deny the allegations against him.
